Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is also the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as being the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal, the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. In the news, attention was paid to her sharp questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
